LandTech’s sensitive approach to the environment at Lake Frances

Lexington, SC-  In an effort to be environmental sensitive, the developers of Lake Frances, Lake Frances Development, Inc, recently stocked Lake Frances with 1,000 sterile grass carp, 25,000 bluegill and shell cracker bream.

To better control the weed growth in the lake, LandTech, the project manager for Lake Frances chose to be as environmentally safe as possible and stocked the lake with sterile grass carp instead of using chemicals that could possibly hurt the environment. “ The carp will work where chemicals are not the best option. Combating weed control by stocking grass carp is the natural thing to do,” said Joe Logan, retired DNR officer and pond consultant. “ The lake looks better and is a healthier habitat for the fish if it is not overrun with weeds, and if we can combat the problem using the carp, then it  will be much better for the environment and the lake will be safer  for boating, swimming and fishing. It is a great alternative to using chemicals.”

The lake was also stocked with blue gill and shell cracker bream for recreational fishing for Lake Frances homeowners.  “ Lake Frances is such a family-centered community, LandTech felt that this was the best approach to combat the weed problem at Lake Frances and make it a safe and fun place for all of its residents.” said Jennifer Peak, Vice President of Marketing for LandTech.
